After some more pottering around the islands all sails were raised and an easterly course plotted back to the mainland.
As they crossed the Whitsunday passage the winds picked up to near gale force and the rains began to fall (well more horizontal than vertical).
Fortunately Sir Ranulph was able to don his waterproof jacked (the only one aboard with one) and despite the treacherous seas and some precarious heeling over helped guide them safely to port.
